What People Are Saying…

“Gregory Groves is such a dynamic, authentic and engaging speaker that we felt very lucky to have him on stage for our October 4th 2016 Allysian Sciences event in Toronto.  His keynote presentation (“Fears, Faults and Failures”) truly resonated with our audience.  In his very lively, emotional and energizing speech, Gregory gave them clear tips – and most importantly, actionable suggestions — on how to implement valuable strategies on how to go about dealing with and conquering fears, the strength to face faults and weaknesses and the desire to strengthen them, the willingness to change your limiting beliefs; the very thing holding you back from believing that you can achieve anything you put your mind to, into empowering beliefs.

I would highly recommend Gregory as a speaker and presenter!”

“Choose a trainer who is well balanced in their approach to their programs!

My first personal trainer was a disaster; very expensive, with very little results. It was so bad that I said I would never hire another personal trainer again. I was convinced that all personal trainer’s were the same, whether they were paid infomercials or privately hired, they all had ‘the best’ program.

Three years later I saw a notice that a friend of mine wanted to get a group together to train with the help of a personal trainer. I signed up, not for the personal training, but as a chance to work out with some friends.

Greg put me on a program that combined nutrition, weights, cardio, as well as life coaching. He was a wealth of information, dispelling the myths and half truths that I was lead to believe. Greg was also very good at handling my skepticism, and I was won over by the fantastic results.”

“Finally! I have found myself a personal trainer who has turned out to be a life coach as well! Greg knew personally what life was like living with a weight issue.

‘It’s not going to be easy; it’s hard work; accept that from the beginning.’ I was so driven from his encouragement, but couldn’t afford him, so I got group training started with him to share the costs. I worked out 3 times a week, seeing and feeling results. It was becoming a habit (who knew?)

Then, a set-back. Foot surgery with complications. The ‘I tried and failed again’ feeling consumed me. Greg didn’t give up on me when I had given up on myself. He stayed in contact with me regularly, putting me in a good place; helping me to want to come back through life coaching over the phone. Four months later, I came back. The group is looking lean and strong, proving once again that it can be done. I know I have some serious catching up to do! ‘It’s not going to be easy; it’s going to be hard work’, and I can now accept that.”

“Greg has been my personal trainer for the past 6 years. As a woman in her early 50’s, I was in the “use it or lose it” phase of life. My wake-up call happened the day I knelt down on the floor to pick something up and couldn’t get back up! Something had to change and fast! That’s where Greg came in. Over the years, Greg has tailored a program specifically for my needs. During our weekly one-on-one sessions, Greg focuses on weight training, rotating 3 routines and increasing weight as I am ready for it. I also attend his Saturday morning outdoor boot camp which gives me the cardio exercise I need.

One of the benefits of Greg’s training is that I am never sore after. I have had trainers in the past who pushed me so hard that I could hardly walk the next day because of the extreme pain I was in. After Greg’s workouts, I feel stronger and fitter but without pain. Greg is very knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition and we often have interesting conversations about these topics during my sessions.

This year I will turn 60. As I approach this milestone birthday, I do so with a strong, healthy body that serves me well. I have great balance, stable joints and strong muscles thanks to Greg’s training. I believe I am stronger than women half my age!

On top of being a great trainer, Greg is a fantastic human being. He is extremely loyal to his clients and always has their best interest at heart. I plan to be a client of Greg’s for a long time to come.”

”Greg helped me to change my life. I was pretty heavily involved in sports as a kid, hockey in the winter, and lacrosse in the summer. As a result of this I was in pretty good shape without ever having to work out. Then like a lot of other people who transition from their late teens to early twenties, and start to live on their own, I began to gain weight. Not much at first but slowly over time I began to notice it in my appearance.

This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing I mean we all gain weight as we get older so I thought nothing of it. Then I started my current job as a transit operator with the TTC in Toronto, this was a great opportunity for me; it paid me double what I was making before plus I would get benefits. With this job, however, came the split shifts. I would be up at 5 am and wouldn’t be done work till 5 pm with a 3 to 4 hour break in the middle. I began to nap in this break, and then I would be too tired when I got home to do much other than plop on the couch, eat something that would help comfort me, then go to bed and repeat. This is when my weight got out of control.

I gained weight so quickly I wound up with stretch marks all over my body. Yet still I carried on the same way. Then I began to drink quite heavily as well, as this would let me forget about how unhappy with myself I was; but with the drinking came binge eating. And so I began a downward spiral for a few years. Now during this time my grandmother had hired a trainer to come to my apartment and help me train and lose weight; his name was Greg Groves. He would show up once a week and I would reluctantly do as he said for that day but then the next day I was back to my regular routine.

Then I got married, one of the happiest days of my life, but then I saw my wedding pictures. In these photos was the truth of who I now was. I couldn’t believe how much weight I had gained and how large I looked. I mean I had multiple chins! That’s when finally I said enough is enough. I talked to Greg and he made me a meal plan, as well as a workout routine. I began to actually listen to him and push myself harder and harder each week. My weight went down; I began to have energy and wouldn’t need to nap anymore. My strength went through the roof, and more importantly I began to feel like my old self.

I moved away from Toronto shortly thereafter, when my wife and I bought a house. My biggest concern was not what fast food was around but where the closest gym was. I go there religiously still to this day; they even took my picture and used it for promotions and advertisements for the gym! My biggest regret is that I didn’t listen to Greg sooner and I didn’t push myself before it got out of hand. Now I can say that my newborn son has a dad who will be around for a long time, and it is all because of my old trainer and my great friend Greg Groves!”

“My affair started in my early teens at “Figure Magic” my partner, a machine with this great big leather belt that was going to vibrate the jiggly off. Despite every effort to see the promised amazing results, I did not. It didn’t work. This was followed by years of failed relationships with grapefruit, all protein, no carbs, Atkins, South Hollywood and Bernstein diets, just to name a few. My closet was filled with two sets of clothes, the “skinny” for when the diets were successful, then before I knew it I was reunited with my true blue friends, the “fat clothes.”

Well into my 50’s I realized that it’s not the size of the clothes or the number of the scale screaming back at you, but the person you are happy with that is looking back at you in the mirror. I was no model but relatively satisfied with my weight and fitness level I had reached; the woman in the mirror was not too shabby, even by my standards. A weight and nutrition program was offered at work. Always interested, I signed up and met Greg, and a whole new world opened up to me. Although I had been going to the gym and classes on a regular basis, 3 times a week, after my first workout session with Greg I knew I had been just playing at all this weight and nutrition stuff. I was shocked. Every muscle in my body talked to me for days and days after; the next week the same, and these conversations with my muscles are weekly, and it’s great! I now knock off push-ups, no more jiggly arms, just nicely formed upper arms. Although I still find it difficult to see myself in those floor-to-ceiling mirrors at the gym (some old habits die hard!), when I do catch a glimpse of myself I think ‘Well done girl!’”

“My name is Marque, and I am over 45 years old, and almost every day, I have to try and convince people that I am really over 45. Everyone guesses my age from late twenties to mid 30’s. This is a great thing. Looking younger than you really are is partially genetics, but I have also discovered that staying really fit keeps you looking and feeling younger as well.

I first met Greg Groves over 7 years ago, through his beautiful wife, Olivia. She was a colleague of mine at the time. We were talking about fitness and she told me that Greg was a personal trainer and that if I ever needed some help with my physical training, he was really good.

At first, I thought, he’s like all personal trainers, he won’t really take the time to focus on getting me in shape and it would be a waste of time and money. But was I wrong!

Initially, I began training to keep my weight under 72.5 kg. I am not a tall guy, just about 176 cm. I also realized that I did not feel comfortable being over 80 kg. My clothes were not fitting me, I was getting tired easily and although I always worked out at the gym, I had hit a bit of a plateau, and was just not seeing any progress.

For me, working out at a gym on my own had become absolutely useless. I was doing some cardio and weights, but my diet was all over the place.

I finally made the commitment to try Greg. He actually came to my home, gave me a full workout program, and I trained with him for a couple months. I ended up losing about 4.5 lbs in total. I kept training on my own and then I decided to take on a challenge. I wanted to see how far I could push my fitness level. I was invited to participate in the carnival celebrations in Rio, and I used this as my motivation. In 12 months of working out with Greg, I was able to get my body to 70.6 of lean, healthy muscles. I kept to my diet of making sure I had breakfast every morning, and drank lots of water throughout the day. Now 6 months after carnival, I am still in the best shape. Every thanks to Greg and his customized workout program and diet plan.

Now I maintain my current body weight with a visit to the gym 4 days a week. Greg has taught me that you do not need to spend hours and hours at the gym to achieve great results. In fact, I spend approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes at the gym, tops. I combine exercise with cardio and abs and I am in the greatest shape for someone 45+.

The importance of making the commitment to work out 4 or 5 days, and find the time to work out, is challenging. But you have to look at it as a lifestyle change. This will help you, as you grow older in age at least. It will help you in your day-to-day activities at work, home or wherever.

Having a personal trainer like Greg, who really does care about you and wants to help you reach your goal, has been key to getting me looking as young as people say I look. I learned the importance of doing nutrition, cardio and weight training in a structured program to get results. I have lost over 20lbs and I am happier, I look great and I feel better about myself.”

“I approached Greg Groves because I had been struggling with trying to lose weight and get back into a regular pattern of exercise after an injury. I have friends who have made big gains in their fitness through weight training but I was unsure of how to construct a program and intimidated to go to the gym.

Greg helped me by spending time to understand my fitness goals and developing a customized program that was easy to follow yet challenged me to improve. Under his watchful eye, I learned how to use the equipment safely and effectively. Greg also taught me the importance of tracking my workouts so that I could see the incremental improvements and areas where I needed to focus more attention.

The result was I was able to establish a regular routine of workouts, become more confident in the gym and a dramatic change in my body. I have maintained a weight loss of 27 pounds, increased my overall strength, and have seen an improvement in my running and cycling performance.

One thing I liked about working with Greg is his ability to understand what you are capable of and motivate you to push hard to achieve your goals.

I found the experience of working with Greg to be extremely positive and rewarding. At all times I felt he was focused on my best interests and he has an engaging approach that helped me to stay with the program on those days when I considered dropping workouts.

I would recommend Greg as a trainer to people who need help to get started on a path to a healthier lifestyle and to those who need the encouragement to push themselves to reach a new goal.”

“A few years ago I was introduced to Greg. I was overweight and out of shape and decided I needed to do something about it, so I hired Greg as a personal trainer.

He would seriously kick my ass every week with in home training and I saw results even after the first week. We have remained friends over the years because he is a stand up guy and deserves the best.

He is now an author to boot!

Check out his new book, available now!”

“Greg has been my Personal Trainer since September 2010. With his knowledge and expertise, he has been able to make every training session unique and challenging – always knowing what I can do and pushing me to my fullest capabilities. Greg has helped me lose 50lbs so far – something I would never have been able to accomplish on my own.

I am always looking forward to the next session because Greg knows how to keep me motivated.”

“I’ve tried a lot of diets throughout my life (for example – Slim Fast, the grapefruit diet) and tried a lot of different exercise programs (Zumba, Tao Bo, Windsor Pilates, etc.).  Each thing I tried gave me short term results but I was never able to maintain it and I didn’t know why.

When I met Greg I just treated his class as any other exercise class.  I went, workout and went home not giving a second thought of how the class may help me physically or mentally.  But then I started talking to Greg and listening to the advice he gave us during our classes about our mentality towards being healthier (not only just losing weight). And that’s when I finally realized what held me back all these years.

I, mentally, was approaching being healthy and weight loss as a chore and just doing generic weight loss plans that aren’t fit for what I needed.

Each person has different needs and lifestyles and no one weight loss plan works for everyone.  With the help of Greg, I built a plan to be healthier, physically and mentally, and have been able to maintain my ideal weight for over 2 years now.”

– Shirley Lau-Hamilton

“For many years I had been what one would say was an “avid exercise person”.  But my body never seemed to change.  A few years after my second heart operation I happened to read an article in the paper about a trainer who would come to the house and teach proper exercise to his clients.

After great consideration, I made that very important call to have him come over for a consultation.  That was one of the most important decisions in my life.  From then on I have learned so much of how to exercise properly and most important of all about nutrition, as well as having a proper mindset.

It is because of his great guidance and teaching that I am the healthy seventy one year old great grandmother that I am today.

Thanks Greg! You are a great friend and an expert motivator.”
